Tree Planting on a Hillel Israel Trip
|
|
To engage, excite, and empower the next generation of
Jews and Jewish leadership - this is what Hillel is all about. Los Angeles
Hillel Council is creating a Jewish renaissance for students on campuses
throughout greater Southern California, from Santa Barbara, to greater Los Angeles and the San Fernando, San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys. Through Hillel, young people meet one another, explore their
heritage, and create thriving, celebratory Jewish communities.
Hillel provides opportunities for students of diverse interests and
backgrounds to connect with each other and with their Jewish identity.
Some come with much Jewish experience, some with little or none. We engage
and empower students who are secular and religious, traditional and
liberal. Whatever their background, Hillel creates a warm and welcoming
environment where students can explore and express their Judaism.
There are joyful Shabbat and holiday celebrations, interactive Jewish
learning, opportunities to become activists
through "tzedek" programs designed to hone leadership skills and build
mutual respect within the Jewish community, and across racial, ethnic, and
religious communities.
Of course, kicking back for a good time with friends, dancing, jamming and
playing sports or attending a ball game are also in the repertoire. So are
a wide range of opportunities to be a part of the broader Jewish community,
K'lal Yisrael - from attending leadership conferences in Washington, D.C. to
participating in a life-changing birthright israel trip or connecting with peers
from Uruguay or the former Soviet Union. LAHC is also proud of its
accomplishments in keeping Jewish students involved and challenged with every
facet of creative expression: art, photography, literature, sports, leadership,
activism, environment, Jewish ritual and spirituality. Hillel provides
open, welcoming and innovative ways for students of all interests to engage with
Judaism.
