Los Angeles Hillel Council Offers a Scholarship to Medical Students
The Hillel Medical Scholarship Program was founded in 1950, by Rabbi
Jehudah M. Cohen, Pacific Regional Director (1946-1966), and a group of local Physicians and Philanthropists, who felt that there was a need for financial support for deserving medical students. Funds for our program are donated by Private Individuals, The Halper Foundation, as well as from Prior Scholarship Recipients, who are asked in an annual fund raising campaign to "help others as we had once helped you."
Since its inception, thousands of Hillel Scholarships have been awarded to deserving Medical Students.
The current scholarship grant is $2,500.
Eligibility
Students who are enrolled or are about to enter an AMA or D.O. accredited Medical School in the United States may apply for a scholarship.
Currently Scholarships being granted are limited to:
- Students attending California Medical Schools
- California Residents attending any Medical School
- Any Medical Student, nationwide, who is or has been active in Hillel while in College
Application
All the required information must be completed. Since students will not have a personal interview, it is very important to include a detailed description of yourself, your interests, educational goals, and financial situation on a separate "Personal Summary."
It is the applicant's responsibility to make sure that the transcripts and evaluations have been sent to the Hillel Medical Scholarship office. The deadline for submitting a completed application is September 1, 2005.

Statements from the Financial Aids Office and personal recommendations are also required. An updated personal summary in as much detail as possible would be nice.

Hillel Medical School Scholarships are granted on the basis of financial need and scholastic achievement, and any other factors deemed important by the Committee.
